The ride is over, but the exhilaration from completing it still lingers.

This is the second time I participated in ECC's Burung Hantu event. And I have to say that the event has improved very much. 2 Get on Jln Tun Abdul Razak - Ayer Keroh
3 Exit left onto first ramp
4 Get on Ramp
5 On the first traffic light head straight.
6 Reach on UTeM guardpost. Continue journey
7 Enter Roundabout, take the 1st left

BURUNG HANTU 2011 Track Profile

The starting and finishing point for upcoming "Burung Hantu" Night Jamboree will be at UTeM Stadium, Melaka. Estimated distance 45 km with about 5 Burung Hantu check points with this year, the trail will only pass our new district, HANG TUAH JAYA.

If you are new to our jamboree, do not worry of being in the dark as we will have LED lights every 50 metres alongside with your bright torchlight to guide you inside the offroad trail. Also during the event itself, we will have ride marshals, off-road motorbike marshals, 4x4 to accompany participants.

From the Starting point, you'll need to ride on for 13KM to reach Check Point 1

From Check Point 1, another 12KM of cycling journey towards Check Point 2.

Continue from there, you'll reach Check point 3 within 5 KM from Check Point 2

Check Point 4 will be 10 KM away from Check Point 3

A short ride of 2 KM from Check Point 4will reach you to Check Point 5

From then on, you'll have another short 3KM to complete our 2011 BURUNG HANTU journey.

Hey... it doesn't stop there. We know you guys need water stops to refill and banana station to replenished your energy. We'll have total 3 water stations with bananas within Check Point 1 and Check Point 2. Proceed in the middle of Check Point 3, we will have another water station and banana for riders to complete their journey.

Note to all riders; Please have a water bottle or water bag pack as we do not have small bottles to give away. We will only give water without any bottles. Save the forest by not littering.

RULES OF BURUNG HANTU 2011

Some regulations for the upcoming Burung Hantu 2011
As this is our third nightly event, we emphasize riders to obey rules and have proper equipment list below during the ride.
THINGS TO BRING
• A bike that’s properly serviced and in tiptop condition.
• Helmet Compulsory for your own preservation.
• Torch light. Compulsory as you’ll need it to guide you in the dark.
• Extra batteries. Average battery life is 2 hrs. So additional batteries is needed to go on further.
• Back light (Red Light), so that when you are On The Road, the car from the back will notice you.
• Cramp Sprays.
• Mini tools.
• Spare tubes (2pcs) and patches.
• Pump.
• Insect repellents.
• Mobile phone.
• Bright or Lumisnescent wear. Easy to notice you while you are riding
• Raincoat... in any case it rains

Rules of ride
Please slow down at junctions and watch out for these signs. Marshals will be stationed only at critical points to help guide riders. There will also be official Sweepers who will move into the trails after the cut off times for each stage. If you are unsure of the turnings and can’t find the signage, go back to the last seen trail marker and wait for the Sweepers.
Since this is a night ride event, we encourage group riding as you can rely on each other when help is needed.
You can expect trail congestion during the initial parts of the ride, especially on the narrow single tracks. Stronger riders are advised to come to the front during flag off. If you should stop during a climb, do quickly move to the side of the trail and allow other riders to pass. This will help reduce trail congestion. Do give prior warning when passing a slower rider and only where the trail is wide enough to pass.

After a successful event on our 2 jamboree events, we are proud to host again the third installation of BURUNG HANTU 2011 Nite jamboree. BURUNG HANTU 2011 Nite jamboree is scheduled to be held on 1st and 2nd October 2011 at UTeM Stadium, Lebuh Ayer Keroh Melaka.

BURUNG HANTU 2010 Nite jamboree entry fee for each participants is RM50 and for every registration this time, a sum of RM5 will be allocated to a charitable organisation fund. on our last year event we had as many as 1448 participants taking part in our event.Participants comes from throughout Malaysia and from neighbouring countries such as Singapore and Japan.

We've have finally decided to release the registration form for MTB enthusiast riders to join our second year making of "BURUNG HANTU" 2010 nite jamboree.

BURUNG HANTU Official Registration Form Details

As a special this year, for every registration, a sum of RM5 will be allocated to the SPCA Melaka fund.

Also, participants are able to choose their lucky # from 0001 to 9999 at a mere RM10 ringgit. Why RM10??? Before u start to jump from your chairs, let us explain why choosing ur lucky # cost this much.
The amount contributed will be as well allocated to the SPCA Melaka fund.

What happened if i had paid for my lucky # and it's been taken by someone else???
Well, we will notify you if the number is
taken. Also, we have to say sorry, you need to choose another number which had not been taken

We decided to do a little charity this year. So let us help to save the stray animals around the neighborhood.

Jasin MTB Jamboree

2nd May, 2010: A large number of ECC members participate in and event organized by our fellow frenz within Melaka.

A huge turnout was expected on event day. 800 participants from all over the peninsular as well as our neighbouring countries had come to participate in this event. With a distance of approximately 50KM, most of ECC members had enjoyed and completed the event in a happy, as well as a few pain (cramps) from some riders.

15th members from ECC manage to complete the jamboree as top 100th finisher.
Both mentor and student, (Ah Chai, and Edward), manage to do ECC proud to complete in 1st and 2nd placing overall. Ah Yang as well to get a top five placing...
Our veteran cyclist, Mr Michael, did us proud in finishing 2nd in veteran category.
Lady rider, Ah Mei, won 1st place as well in womens category. A good feat by the ECC teams. Congratz to all.

All and all the. Team has made ECC proud. Kudos to ECC members and Jasin MTB organizer...

1st May 2010. An event from the northern state is calling.
9am, 3 riders from ECC depart from Melaka and drove all the way to KULIM to have a chance to look out on the 2nd Nite jamboree.

A great jamboree event organize by KHT bikerz from Kulim. ECC team of 3 person had a wonderful ride on a murky 37KM distance. Heng got a top 33 finisher in 2hrs time. Pang and first timer jamboree cyclist, Howard, completed an hr afterwards. Overall, they had enjoyed the challenged during the whole event. As a first timer, Howard, is lucky enough to win a lucky draw prize.
Congratz to all. A good nite ride organized by the northern fellow riders. Kudos to KHT Bikerz

Right now, Team ECC will be busy to prepare/make our 2nd Nite jamboree, as well as the 2nd Nite jamboree event in 2010, a night for upcoming participants to remember...

Below is the itinerary for our "BURUNG HANTU" Nite Jamboree event on 24th and 25th October 2009

Itinerary
1.00pm: Registration starts. Goodies and T-shirts giveaways
6.00pm: Riders Check-In. (Each participants are enquire to check-in before the start of race)
8.00pm: Briefing time
8:30pm (sharp):Journey begins. participants flag off.
11:30pm: Check point 1 and 2 cut off time. Participants who reach after the said time will be directed towards the chicken loop
12:00am: Check point 3 cut off time
12:30am: Check point 4 cut off time
1.30am: Lucky draw
2:00am: Event comes to end.

As this is a night event, we emphasize riders to obey rules and have proper equipment list below during the ride.
THINGS TO BRING
• A bike that’s properly serviced and in tiptop condition.
• Helmet Compulsory for your own preservation.
• Torch light. Compulsory as you’ll need it to guide you in the dark.
• Extra batteries. Average battery life is 2 hrs. So additional batteries is needed to go on further.
• Back light (Red Light), so that when you are On The Road, the car from the back will notice you.
• Mini tools.
• Spare tubes (2pcs) and patches.
• Pump.
• Insect repellents.
• Mobile phone.
• Bright or Lumisnescent wear. Easy to notice you while you are riding
• Raincoat... in any case it rains

Rules of ride
Please slow down at junctions and watch out for these signs. Marshals will be stationed only at critical points to help guide riders. There will also be official Sweepers who will move into the trails after the cut off times for each stage. If you are unsure of the turnings and can’t find the signage, go back to the last seen trail marker and wait for the Sweepers.
Since this is a night ride event, we encourage group riding as you can rely on each other when help is needed.
You can expect trail congestion during the initial parts of the ride, especially on the narrow single tracks. Stronger riders are advised to come to the front during flag off. If you should stop during a climb, do quickly move to the side of the trail and allow other riders to pass. This will help reduce trail congestion. Do give prior warning when passing a slower rider and only where the trail is wide enough to pass.

"BURUNG HANTU" Jamboree Track Profile

The starting and finishing point for upcoming "Burung Hantu" Night Jamboree will be at Dataran Ayer Keroh. Estimated distance 45 km with 5 Burung Hantu check points.
As mention the Jamboree track will pass through all of Melaka 3 District, Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah. Do not worry of being in the dark as we will have LED lights every 50 metres alongside with your bright torchlight to guide you inside the offroad trail. Also during the event itself, we will have ride marshals, off-road motorbike marshals, 4x4 to accompany participants.

GPS location of start and finish point:
N2 16.443 E102 17.905

Towards Check Point 1
The first 5 km, will be tarmac road riding accompanied by marshals and RELA members.
Upon entering the off road, you ‘ll be experiencing a 10km roller coaster ride which only you would enjoy with your trustee old bike.
Once completed, you’ll endure another 3 km to CP1 on road.
No cut off time at this point (11.30pm) with the hope that no riders will chicken out (there will be no fun to chicken run the first check point).
Total Ride Distance: 18km
Chicken Route Distance: 4.1km

Towards Check Point 2
A 4.7km single track ride into the rainforest. Along this track you will need a lot of concentration to manoeuvre around the fallen trunks, tree branches sticking out, pot holes and etcs towards check point 2.
Cut off time 11.30 pm with chicken run route.
Total Ride Distance: 4.7km
Chicken Route Distance: 4.8km

Towards Check Point 3
4.6km ride off ride where halfway through you will be crossing a small stream; with skills and a bit of luck you may keep those shoes dry else wet and muddy shoes wouldn’t hurt a bit.
Cut off time 12.00am with chicken run route
Total Ride Distance: 4.6km
Chicken Route Distance: 6.6km

Towards Check Point 4
4.1km ride. After strenuous roller coaster ride from CP1, single track ride and river crossing, what you’ll need is a relaxing ride and this is what you’ll have when you ride yourself towards CP4. A gasp of cold fresh air with the stars n moonlight glittering the night itself
Cut off time 12.30 am. You’ll need to get on to a lorry so don’t miss out the last lorry or you’ll be camping yourself with the chickens in the farm nearby.
Total Ride Distance: 4.1km
Chicken Route Distance: 11.5km

Towards Check point 5
A total 6.3km distance with a little roller coaster ride from CP 4 is what you’ll get after a relaxing ride from CP 4
No cut off time.
Total Ride Distance: 6.3km

Finishing point.
From CP5, you will have to endure just another 9km to the finishing point.
Total Ride Distance: 9km

"Burung Hantu" Jamboree:Track Cleaning

During Merdeka eve, ECC members brave the rain to clean the track for our upcoming "Burung Hantu" jamboree.

The track is clean and safe for night ride as we have run a full 45km the very next day. We hope that every participants will have a safe an enjoyable ride when the time comes.

King of Mountain: Gunung Datok

ALOR GAJAH – Café Nelayan as part of its corporate social responsibility organized a closed Mountain Bike Road Race, nicknamed the King of Gunung Datok recently.

Its organizer Mohd Norazaman said the 28 kilometers road race started from the Petronas Kiosk of Simpang Ampat with eighteen participating giving their all but unfortunately five did not complete the race.

The champion of Gunung Datok went to bicycle mechanic Sim Seng Chai. Mohd Soffhi Mohamed and Syafiq Syahrill Izwan Khoo took home and first runner-up and second runner-up title.

Zamli Kenting, Mohd Fairus Md Bazid, Abu Syawam Abu Samah, Muhd Syafik Aiyub and Zulhakim Djumian were among the 18 participants at the race.

According to a co-organizer Wen Loi due overwhelming response, Norazaman has decided to host ‘King of Gunung Tampin’ which will be held on Sunday, 28 June 2009 For registration and more information please call Loi on 012 6075606.

Nite Ride In Conjunction With The LTDL 09

On the 10th Feb 2009 the LTDL reaches Melaka for the second stage, Lucky for me being asked to represent my company to the finishing & prize giving ceremony.

At the VIP tent, I met with an old friend of mine En Zulkarnain, being the side event manager for the LTDL 09 he asked if ECC Malacca can organize a nite ride and finish at Hang Tuah Mall, where tomorrow stage will finish & the day after will be the starting for the stage to Bangi. Since Wednesday is the day for our usual Wednesday nite ride program, so I guess shouldn't be a problem.

I call the ECC Malacca President & Mr President said ON..ON..

About 60 members turn out that nite & we start cycling @ 2100hrs.

We ride through the World Heritage Historical City towards the Portugese Settlement.

The whole ride covers about 40km and finishes at the Hang Tuah Mall @ 2300hrs.

Surviving the Sahara

It's been some time now since all of you had your tanning session during the Sahara ride. No need to thank us for the gorgeous bronze tan but if you insist, the comment button is at the bottom.

Yes we hear you. The cry of joy when you were downhilling and the cursing when you reached check point 6. You want reports and photos of the ride. Most of us at the organising level are almost recovered from sleep deprivation, teh tarik overdose and stress and we will post the link to the photo album once it is ready.

Those of you who didn't get the finisher medals, don't worry, we'll post to you.

What we'll do at the moment is to provide links to other riders blogs. What better story than coming from the riders that had first hand experience right?

Our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all involved directly or indirectly to the success of the 1st ever Melaka Heritage Mountain Bike Jamboree 2008 event.
Special thanks to the main sponsors and co-sponsors for being so supportive in making this event a successful one.

Organizing the 1st Mountain Bike Jamboree is not an easy task for a new club formed in July 2008, many challenges and hurdles that we need to overcome in just 3 months time before the event.

Thanks to all committee members, marshals, helpers, PDRM, Bulan Sabit Merah, RELA and others for the support and commitment throughout the event.

Not forgetting our family members for being so understanding and supportive.

Saturday - Cycle Hunt

Lots of parking area at Taman Rempah (Spice Garden). Look out for event banner.

Participants are required to use the sponsored T-shirt that will be given upon registration. This is for easy identification when riding in the city. Police personals have been briefed to watch out for confused cyclists riding haphazardly in the city, which brings you to point no. 3

Obey traffic rules. (The organising committee are all busy and we'll only bail you out on Monday)

Questions are designed to let everyone have fun and the opportunity to explore the historical areas. Take time to savour the local delicacy while you hunt for the answers.
In case of accidents, please look for any committee marshals for assistance.

Sunday – The Environment Ride (Survive the Sahara)

There will be 9 check points (CP) where you will receive stickers.

Starts from Cowbow town parking area. Ride on road (approx 10km), kampong road and off road starts to:

CP 1

CP 2 – cut off time 11 am. Chicken trail available.

CP 3 – Water stop. Located behind Petronas high rest stop. You can buy additional Isotonic drinks, bread, etc. Emergency vehicle (EV) will be on standby

CP 4 – Water stop. EV on standby

CP 5 – cut off time 1.30pm. EV on standby. Chicken trail.

CP 6 – Bukit Botak

CP 7 – cut off time 2.30 pm. Water stop. EV on standby. Chicken trail.

CP 8 –

CP 9 – EV on standby

You're on the way home, baby!

CP 6 and CP 8 are not accessible by vehicle. If anyone encounters problems in CP 6 & 8, please push your bike to CP 7. We need you to help each other if you see your fellow rider encountering bike or health problems. Emergency contact numbers are on the bike plate.

Event hanging medals will be given to those with minimum of 5 CP stickers

Don’t force yourself, just ride according to your fitness level. Have fun but be safe.

Helmets are compulsory. No helmet no ride.

Environment

We have put sufficient paper to mark the trail. Please do not throw additional Powergel/powerbar wrappers or plastic bags to mark the trail. Bring back the wrappers and dispose at the proper rubbish bins. Play your part to be conscious about the environment.

Weather

It has been unpredictable lately and it will either be dry which means hot sunny day or wet. If it’s dry, we recommend long sleeve jersey/arm covers or apply sun block. Bandanna or towel over the head will help prevent heat stoke. Remember to rehydrate yourself often.

If it rains, avoid riding on the soft top soil earth as it will coat the tyres and cause problems when it goes into the chain and rear derailleur. We had 3 bikers breaking the hanger on one of the ride. Try riding at the side on the grass instead. Going downhill will be slippery, go very slow or better still, push.

Please help your fellow bikers when you come across deep trenches and steep hill slopes. Team work guys and gals!

Sunday night - Dinner/Lucky Draw/Prize giving

Please bring your bike plate along. We will give you a wrist band and dinner voucher when you present the bike plate. Wrist band is for entrance to Cowboy town. Present the voucher to the controllers at the dinner hall entrance. Additional dinner vouchers can be bought on site

Lucky draw - to qualify for the lucky draw, you need a minimum of 5 check point stickers. Riders with all 9 stickers will get additional chance. You will need to present the bike plate and identification when collecting lucky draw prizes. Remember - bike plate, very important to bring along for dinner.

Bike club members ride for the environs
4th August 2008

MALACCA: About 80 mountain bike enthusiasts from the newly-launched Kelab Berbasikal Alam Sekitar took part in a night ride in the old city here to attract more members.
Club president, Toh Kian Keong said, besides taking up cycling as a hobby for a healthy lifestyle, the members wanted to create greater awareness among locals on environmental issues through their activities.
He said the club would carry out voluntary social activities such as gotong royong during their biking rounds to help preserve the environment.
As part of the club’s launch, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam took part in the ride with the members along Malacca River from Spice Garden to the 17th-century Stadthuys Dutch complex.
The club will hold activities every Wednesday and Friday and is planning the Malacca Mountain Bike Jamboree 2008 in October.

Night Ride with Melaka Chief Minister

18th July Night Ride was special because our Chief Minister consented to ride with us and also officially launched the Environment Cycling Club also known as Kelab Berbasikal Alam Sekitar Melaka.The ride started at Spice Garden where Keong presented YAB Datuk Seri Mohd Ali, our club cycling jersey on his arrival. We rode along the streets of Malacca with 2 police outriders as escorts to control traffic. It was estimated about 60 riders from various cycling clubs and groups joined in as we cycled into history books.

After going through some historical and business areas, the ride ended by a cafe by the Malacca riverside, a stone's throw from the clock tower.
Refreshment for everyone, self paid of course!

It was good team work with MC Norhisham who is ever natural with the microphone and Wahid and his team in preparing the booklet for CM and reporters for reference of reports, photos of previous rides and most importantly, the request for state assistance in making ECC's Melaka Heritage Mtb Jamboree a success. CM giving his speech and pledging RM5,000.00 to launch the club

We were supposed to ride the whole lengh of the trail which is about 50km but the first 20km tough even for some of the season riders. We may need to trim some of the trail as we do more inspection. Our target is to have everyone out by 4pm and enjoy the Grand dinner in Cowboy town.

We are a bunch of cycling enthusiast from various cycling groups in Malacca and now united in our efforts to promote cycling as an activity for health, fellowship and to beat the fuel hike! Membership is simple. Just register with us from the forms provided that you can get online (coming soon), the friendly neighbourhood bike shop, Sin Bee Hin or just ask any ECC member. Pay a minimal fee for registration and most importantly, get a Mountain bike and start riding with us!
